All our Fairport pals were at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards back in April, and received a special Award celebrating their 1969 classic “Liege and Lief” as the most influential folk record of all time: the original Line-up was on stage: Simon, RT, Ashley, Swarb, Dave Mattacks (and with Chris While singing the part of the late Sandy Denny) and they performed a superb version of ‘Matty Groves’ – and it was great to see Swarb onstage, fiddling strongly and in great health! And at Cropredy 2006 in August, Island Records’ Joe Black presented each of the 1969 Fairports (and producer Joe Boyd) with Gold Discs commemoration the huge sales of “Liege & Lief” |
